Heronflight
Basic Info
Clan: ThunderClan
Rank: Medicine Cat
Age: 53 moons
Gender: She-Cat
Relations:Stormtail (Father), Doveheart (Mother), Graypelt (Sister), two unnamed stillborn siblings
Physical Description
Heronflight is actually on the larger side for a cat, inheriting her father's imposing size, and seems even larger because of her long, thick fur. But despite her large size, she is poorly fit to be anything but a medicine cat. She has a visible limp because of a poorly-healed right hind leg when she was still a warrior's apprentice that still pains her in colder weather. Her tail is quite long and fluffy, and she often takes advantage of that to keep her paws and legs warm during leaf-bare. Her fur is a solid blue-gray with no real distinguishing markings save for the silvery tinge around her muzzle that is slowly growing with age. Her eyes are a pale green, and seem to be full of the wisdom of many, many moons.
Personality
Wise | Compassionate | Reserved | Patient | Timid
At First Glance: Heronflight may very well come off as intimidating at first glance, due to her sheer size and her preference to keep to herself. Strangers to the clan might think her a veteran warrior, or a new elder who had fought many battles in the protection of the clan. She might even give off a bit of a standoffish vibe to those who don't know her. This impression can easily be changed if Heronflight was seen with other cats, as they might then see her as a mother who has reared many kits while balancing her warrior lifestyle.
In-Depth: Heronflight is a very wise medicine cat, though one has to be careful how they get her to share this wisdom. She does not take well to anger being directed her way, and will very easily retreat in such a situation. But if one comes to her with a level head and a respectful tone, she will give them all that she knows and do all that she can to help them. However, she is still one who prefers to keep the peace, and if she disagrees with someone, though she may voice it in as gentle a way as she can, she prefers not to start arguments, and will sometimes prefer to just silently comply with whatever another cat wishes to do rather than disagree and risk starting a fight.
Strengths & Weaknesses
History
Born many, many moons ago to Doveheart and Stormtail, two young and starry-eyed warriors, Heronkit was the first of two small kits to survive out of the litter of four. Like their father, both Heronkit and her sister Graykit were born with their father's dark gray fur. From a very young age, the two sisters were practically inseparable, preferring to play with each other more than the other kits in the nursery, and sleeping side by side pressed up against their mother as they continued to grow. Their father liked to imagine the both of them growing up to be warriors just like himself, and he often liked to tell great stories about himself--though Doveheart would tell them in secret that most of the stories weren't exactly true. Despite that, both Heronkit and Graykit looked up to their father and hoped to one day have the same stories to tell their kits that he did.
Before too much longer, it was time for the two kits to become apprentices under other warriors. Graykit became Graypaw, and was mentored by a fairly new warrior called Deerstep. Heronkit, on the other hand, was given to a much older, experienced warrior called Pineclaw. As a brand new apprentice, Heronpaw strove to be the best she could be, to live up to her father's stories and hopefully become just as great as him. However, Pineclaw was not an easy mentor. He often pushed Heronpaw to her very limits, being unusually strict on her, though he never got to the point of harshness. Though his lessons were often merciless, he instilled within Heronpaw a strong sense of loyalty to her clan and fellow cats. Heronpaw did her best to keep up with Pineclaw and his lessons in combat, hunting, and patrolling, but try as she might, she just couldn't keep up. The more she tried, the more she realized she couldn't handle it. And sure enough, the last straw came when Heronpaw slipped on some rocks while going out to patrol with Pineclaw and breaking her right hind leg. Pineclaw dragged her back to the camp, and Heronpaw remained there for several moons as the medicine cat, Snowleaf, tended to her. The more Snowleaf worked, and the more Heronpaw recovered, the more both cats realized that Heronpaw's life as an apprentice was probably over. Heronpaw's leg, though it healed, did not heal properly, and despite all the rest and all the care that the apprentice had taken not to agitate it, it still caused her a great deal of pain to walk on.
But not all hope was lost for Heronpaw. Snowleaf decided then to take the twelve-moon cat, with Pineclaw and Cloverstar's permission, as her own apprentice, so that Heronpaw would be able to play a part in the clan despite her injury. Together, Snowleaf and Heronpaw made their way
Perhaps it was a good thing that Snowleaf had taken on an apprentice, because that leaf-bare, an epidemic of greencough swept through the clan. Very few cats escaped the disease, and Snowleaf probably would have been completely overwhelmed if not for Heronpaw's help. Though they treated every cat they could as best as they could, they eventually had to quarantine all of the ill cats within Snowleaf's den. By the time new-leaf came again, several of the cats who had fallen ill had died, including both Doveheart and Stormtail, and even Cloverstar herself had lost a life to the illness. With all of these deaths weighing heavily on her, Heronpaw began to despair, wondering if she was even worthy of trying to help, but Snowleaf assured her that she had done her very best, and if it wasn't for her help, no doubt more cats would have perished.
As new-leaf progressed, Heronpaw and her sister Graypaw became close again, with the latter becoming more and more excited for her eventual promotion to warrior. She told Heronpaw that Deerstep was becoming more and more impressed with her every single day, and that she might be able to become a full-fledged warrior soon.
But with the new-leaf came the swelling of the river and the rains, and a fierce thunderstorm swept Graypaw down the river one evening. Deerstep and a couple other warriors searched high and low for her along the length of the river for the rest of the evening and into the night, but come sunrise, they all returned, with the sad news that they had not been able to find Graypaw, and feared the worst. In her compassion for the grieving Deerstep and Heronpaw, Cloverstar decided to give her a warrior name posthumously, calling her Graypelt.
Now with her family all gone, Heronpaw found herself a lot less cheerful than before. Snowleaf did her best to cheer her apprentice up, but Heronpaw found herself becoming more and more reclusive, though she was still dedicated to helping other cats. She wanted to help her clanmates in the memory of her family, and so she did. She proved, however, that Snowleaf had done well to take her as her apprentice, as when foxes invaded the clan, Heronpaw proved herself able to do little more than fall back with Snowleaf and tend to those who survived. She knew she couldn't handle a battle like that, especially with her injured leg, but when it came to tending to the hurt, she was happy to do all she could.
When Heronpaw was nearly thirty-five moons old, another wave of greencough ravaged the clan, though the older, more experiened Heronpaw and Snowleaf managed to keep it fairly well-contained. However, Snowleaf, close to eighty moons old by now, fell ill at the height of the epidemic. Though Heronpaw tried to keep Snowleaf optimistic that she would overcome the disease, the old she-cat did not have as bright of an outlook. As her days ticked by, she knew she wouldn't make it, and, though she was suffering greatly, her symptoms improved just enough to allow them both to go to the Moonpool one last time. It was then, in front of all the other medicine cats, that the dying Snowleaf passed the torch on to her apprentice, giving Heronpaw her new name, Heronflight. Though the fear of catching greencough was in the back of every medicine cat's mind, they all huddled around Snowleaf and lay together with her under the light of the full moon, with StarClan to guide them.
On that night, Heronflight had a dream. She saw her mother and her father, she saw her two littermates that she didn't even remember, and she saw Graypelt. They all surrounded her, offering her their love and their reassurance, telling her that they were still with her despite all the hardships she was facing, and that she would never be alone. They told her to stay strong for all of them, and that they would support her through it all.
After a hard fight that Heronflight tried her best to support her mentor through, old Snowleaf's symptoms took a turn for the dire, and she succumbed to the disease and took her place in the ranks of StarClan the night after they returned back to the ThunderClan camp. With that last death, it seemed the epidemic had abated, and Heronflight was left to learn how to support the clan as a medicine cat on her own. It was difficult, but with help from StarClan that came to her in dreams, she managed. Things were fairly uneventful after the greencough epidemic, but Heronflight kept on her toes, knowing quite well that anything could happen at any moment.
And sure enough, twelve moons ago, at the beginning of leaf-fall, Cloverstar fell ill with a disease Heronflight had never seen before. She treated the symptoms as they became apparent, but her efforts didn't seem to have any effect or do any good for the ailing leader. She began to panic, realizing she was running out of options. She tried everything she could think of, until eventually, her only option became to try to ease the leader's pain as best as she could, as nothing else seemed to be helping. Heronflight became worried, unsure of what to do, but that night, Snowleaf visited her in her dreams, telling her to start preparing the deputy for his journey, and saw another cat slowly fade into view beside her. Heronflight immediately knew the implications of what her old mentor was saying, and when she had awakened in the middle of the night, she found her fear had been made reality. Cloverstar's final life had been taken away, and she had watched her join the ranks of StarClan. She stayed awake for the rest of the night, pacing outside her den, waiting for the dawn to break so she could tell the clan of the terrible news before making sure the deputy, Oakstorm, was ready to make the journey up to the Moonpool to meet his destiny. And there, she watched the deputy become a leader.
Since then, several moons have passed, and Heronflight has remained as steadfast in her duties as she has been in the past. She tirelessly serves her clan, and will gladly do whatever she can to help any cat who may need it.

Personality
Wise | Compassionate | Reserved | Patient | Timid
- Wise - Being one of the older cats in the clan, Heronflight has seen a lot, and she knows a lot. Having been trained by a very old and very wise medicine cat, she has had that wisdom instilled into her. She is good at giving advice as a result, and is said to be very in tune to the voices of StarClan.
- Compassionate - Heronflight has a big heart toward any cat in need, regardless of clan affiliation. If there is someone in need, regardless of their allegiance, she will do what she can for them unless she is specifically told not to. She is also incredibly sympathetic to those who have lost family members or mentors, having gone through the very same, and is happy to be moral support to any who may need it. She often sees herself as a mother figure to all the younger cats of the clan, and will care for them whenever they come to her.
- Reserved - Heronflight will often keep to herself when not spoken to. She's not particularly outgoing, quite happy to stay in the quiet of her den when not needed for anything else. Despite that, she isn't necessarily shy, she just doesn't go out of her way to speak to everyone all the time.
- Patient - Heronflight is perhaps the best listener in the clan, simply because she doesn't get fed up with cats chatting on and on and on incessantly. From apprentices complaining about how harsh their mentors are, to elders rambling about their glory days, to new mothers fretting about their kits, Heronflight is very good at just sitting and listening, rarely interrupting unless she wishes to ask for clarification or reassure her partner in conversation.
- Timid - Perhaps the biggest inspiration for Heronflight's name, she would much rather avoid confrontation if she could avoid it, even to the point of withdrawing from arguments if they involve her. Her timidity often leads to her being a bit of a pushover, doing things that she normally wouldn't agree to simply for the sake of keeping the peace.
